The results of the first "Coconut Wind Cup" Essay Competition for international students, hosted by the Education Department of Hainan and organized by Hainan University, were released on May 22^nd. International student Evgeniya Biryuzova (Chinese name: Jeanya) from HNCST won second prize with her essay entitled "Hainan through Jeanya’s Eyes.” （userfiles/file/%E5%BE%81%E6%96%873.pdf）

The essay competition with "Hainan Through My Eyes" as its theme is open to all international students and is designed to enhance their interest and ability of studying and using Chinese, as well as their understanding of the changes undergone by Hainan Province since its reform and opening up.  Several hundred international students from more than 20 countries studying in 11 colleges and universities in Hainan submitted essays for this competition. After careful selection, 50 essays in total were recommended for the final competition, and after rigorous selection and scoring 5 essays were awarded first prize, 10 second prize, and 15 received third prize.

Evgeniya Biryuzova is a graduate student from Northern (Arctic) Federal University, Russia. She has been studying Chinese at HNCST since September, 2017.  Her instructor Ms. Ling Li says that “Jeanya is a smart and beautiful student.  She has a strong interest in Chinese language and culture, and is open-minded and studious, so she has made remarkable progress.  I am very happy to be her instructor.”
